Day 2, Kent (67 miles)

So today began with optimism, John looked better after a wash, hot food and a pitiful amount of sleep an I was confident about where to go at least until we rode off the torn atlas page!

We started with some climbing and then descended for ages and ages down into rural Kent.

Much better roads today and beautiful scenery. We stopped in an idyllic little village for lunch as John wanted his last Sunday dinner for a month!

This was also chance to charge my phone abit and I'd bought an OS map in the previous village so navigating was now easy!

Cruising in the flat Kent countryside (it didn't stay flat)

John hoping a train would come and put is out of our lost misery!

Unfortunately they didn't have the other OS we needed though and as my phone died again and we rode off the edge of the map similar events to yesterday unfolded.

After a long flat middle section the final part of the day involved a lot of climbing as Dover sits in the north Downs.

We got lost again and again. it was people's directions that sorted us out in the end and we arrived here at Hawthorne campsite, keat farm a lot later than we should have and disappointingly in the rain too.

The rain has now stopped and I'm going to try and sleep in the hammock as I have no mattress.

The first 2 days have been a lesson, that being we can't trust the garmin at all..... It's a piece of crap, and that we need paper maps. Luckily we have these for the continent.

After a bit of rest and getting through the evenings jobs, I feel a lot happier and hopefully so does John.

Here's to tomorrow.
